General advice for bidders
-
The focus of the Trustees is on reduction in offending amongst young people. Your bid will need to demonstrate a strong link between specific groups of young people or specific individuals requiring assistance and an identified likelihood or history of offending. You will need to demonstrate that the grant application will be anticipated to reduce crime in your area. Your bid will require more than to simply state that the kind of project proposed is known to reduce offending generally, nor will the Trustees consider projects aimed at young people generally who may not be at specific risk of offending. The purpose of the supporting statement from the officer or staff member of South Wales Police is to provide the evidence of the specific risk. Supporting statements should include the anticipated number of known offenders or young people at direct risk of offending who are expected to participate in the project.
-
Bids will need to show that young people themselves will be directly helped by the funding. Bids to support training etc for youth workers are unlikely to succeed.
-
The Trustees will not normally part-fund projects, but may fund a discrete element of a larger project, such as a piece of equipment.
-
Bids for services provided by commercial organisations will not normally be funded. This includes activities provided for young people by profit-making organisations, even where the project otherwise meets the necessary criteria.
-
Please bear in mind that you may not receive a decision on your bid for some weeks. The process of allocation of funds involves a number of trustees and you will need to allow sufficient time between your application and your anticipated receipt of funds to enable scrutiny by the trustees.
