CRITERIA FOR GRANT AWARDS
Under the terms of the South Wales Police Youth Trust, the trustees apply funds at their discretion:
1.To promote or support activities which encourage the mental, moral and physical development of young people (whilst diverting them away from crime and anti-social behaviour).
2.To advance the education of the public and in particular young people in all matters relating to alcohol, drug and solvent abuse (and the consequential effects of such abuse) and to the effects of crime generally.
3.To promote a safer environment and increase quality of life through the prevention of crime and disorder for the communities of South Wales.
ADMINISTRATION OF GRANT PROCESS
The availability of grants will be published on the South Wales Police web site and through the South Wales Police operational staffing structure. Applications will only be accepted on the approved form and must be supported by a member of South Wales Police Force personnel or South Wales Police Authority Member.
Applications to the trustees are to be considered and grants are to be made at a minimum twice during the year, however trustees will consider urgent applications as appropriate.
The maximum value of any grant is £500 per individual or £5,000 per organisation/group. The total number of grants approved during the year will be limited to 50% of the Trust’s total funds.
For the Trust’s purposes a young person is one under the age of 25.
Applications will be considered from or on behalf of individual young people, or groups of young people who live, work or study within the boroughs of Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot or Swansea or from organisations who work with young people within these areas.
Applications will be acknowledged as received, with outcomes being advised once known.
All successful applicants will be notified by post or email and will be required to provide written confirmation of the details of the project or work for which they are seeking a grant. Payment is then made in the following month.
A report outlining all grants applications submitted during the year will be submitted to the trustees for review.
APPLICATION METHOD
POST APPROVAL MONITORING
All receipts must be kept and will be monitored at the trustees’ discretion. The South Wales Police supporting officer will be required to provide a post-approval monitoring report to inform the trustees of the actual outcomes of the project.
